The Brushless X-22 is a 22 inch wing designed
for speed! It has a thin leading edge that allows it to attain a
higher air speed than normal airfoils with the same power setup
(see kit contents). The kit contains
a 24 gm 3000kv CD Rom motor with a Slofly aluminum tube motor mount,
a prop saver, and an APC 4.1x4.1 prop. 3-cell, 800-1000mAh lithium
polymer battery packs are recommended. An 18-20 amp ESC is also
recommended. The shaft diameter is 3mm.
This wing is quite fast, depending on the power setup. Speeds over
100 mph with other motors have been reported. It has very fast axial
rolls and tight loops. Very stable at all speeds, it can be flown
in an area the size of a baseball field. It is small enough to be
easily carried about or stored away.
The kit is complete with all parts pre-cut and ready to assemble.
The cores are CNC precision cut EPP foam. Other parts include coroplast
wingtips, balsa elevons, a five-ply motor mount, DuBro control horns,
wire pushrods, Velcro strips, zip ties, strapping and covering tapes,
and assembly directions.
The Original (Brushed) X-22:
This kit includes a Johnson 250 electric motor, 2 4 x 4 props, and
2 prop adapters for power. The kit also contains all other parts
necessary to build the wing.
With the J-250 motor, we have seen the Brushed X-22
get up to 70 mph (reported by fliers). But it also handles well
at low speeds and provides well-controlled, "catchable"
landings. It is aerobatic from mid to high speeds, performing loop
after loop and very fast rolls (5 to 6/sec). It is easy to launch
by tossing it into a glide and then hitting the power. It can be
flown in winds of 10 to 15 mph (we have flown it in higher winds
at times). |
